ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA (FOR ALL POSTS): 

5.1. AGE Limits:

i. Minimum age: 18 years

Maximum age: 40 years

ii. Age will be determined as on the last date of submission of applications: –

Eligibility Criteria for GDS Recruitment 2026

* Educational Qualification :

(a) Candidates must have passed 10th standard from a recognized board. & Mathematics and English must be compulsory subjects in Class 10.

(b) Basic computer knowledge is required.

(c) Knowledge of the local language of the postal circle is mandatory.

(d) Knowledge of cycling

Details : (a) Educational qualification for engagement of GDS is Secondary School Examination pass certificate of 10th standard with passing marks in
Mathematics and English conducted by any recognized Board of School Education by the Government of India/State Governments/ Union Territories
in India.

(b) The applicant should have studied the local language at least up to 10th Standard from a recognized board. The detail of post-wise local language
prescribed by the Department is given in the Annexure-III.

Salary Structure 2026 :

  • Branch Postmaster (BPM): Manages the Branch Post Office, handles speed post/registry, and promotes government schemes.

    • Salary: ₹12,000 to ₹29,380

  • Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) / Dak Sevak: Responsible for mail delivery (doorstep), stamp sales, and assisting the BPM.

    • Salary: ₹10,000 to ₹24,470

EMOLUMENTS AND ALLOWANCES:

The GDSs are paid emoluments in form of Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA), which carry an annual increase of 3%, subject to fulfilment of conditions, as given in the GDS Rules. They are also entitled to Dearness Allowance on TRCA, as declared by the Govt. of India from time to time. The GDSs are also entitled to some other allowances and social security benefits, which include, GDS Gratuity and Service Discharge Benefit Scheme (akin to National Pension System applicable to regular employees), whose details are given under the GDS Rules and official website of the Department. The initial engagement of GDS is made in the following basic TRCA Slabs:

* Selection Process for GDS 2026 :

This is the part most candidates love: There is no written exam and no interview.

1. Merit List: An automated system generates a merit list based on your 10th-grade percentages (calculated to four decimal places).

2. Document Verification: If your name appears on the list, you’ll be called to verify your original certificates (Mark sheets, Caste certificates, etc.).

3. Final Engagement: Once verified, you receive your joining letter.

Once the link goes live on January 31st, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official GDS portal.

  2. Register with your mobile number and email to get a unique Registration Number.

  3. Fill out the application and choose your preferred division. (Pro tip: Choose a division where you know the local language well!).

  4. Upload your photo and signature (keep them under 50kb and 20kb respectively).

  5. Pay the fee (₹100 for General/OBC; Free for SC/ST/Female/PwD).
